New Lip Liner/ Lipstick Reviews

Hello Guys. 🙂

Here are reviews of my latest lipstick/ lip liner purchases. 🙂

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-place lip pencil in Mauve

This lip liner is great because it is striking without being overpowering, it is eye catching while also being light enough to go with many makeup looks. I am in love with mauves and and they have definitely made a comeback in recent times through the likes of Kylie Jenner and co. It lasts ages on your lips (4-5 hours) and also is not drying at all. The lip pencil is longer and cheaper than the Mac pro long wear lip liners so you get more value for money. It has a lip brush on the end which is great when you want to do creative lip looks such as the ombre lip liner effect as you can apply your lipstick to very specific areas. I am in love with this colour and the quality of this lip liner is superb. They also have many other really beautiful colours in the range and I want to buy more!

MAC Kinda Sexy Lipstick

This lipstick is described as a “neutral pinkish rose with a matte finish” and is the perfect colour for a sunny spring day. It is so feminine and is great if you need something that will brighten up your lips just a little bit if you’re doing a bold eye makeup look. To me it is like a peachy nude, lasts fairly long on the lips (3-4 hours) and is not drying at all even though it is matte. It feels actually quite creamy to put on. I love this colour and can’t get over how much of a perfect pink nude this is.

MAC Boldly Bare Lip Liner

The Boldly Bare Lip Liner goes perfectly with the Kinda Sexy Lipstick and is basically the same colour in lip liner form which is why I got it. I also love wearing it on its own as on as it truly is a beautiful colour. It is a great colour to brighten up any makeup look and is like your lips but better. This lip liner would suit so many people and is really wearable. This would be a great choice for anyone who doesn’t like dark lipsticks and is maybe on the hunt for their first lip liner as it is so natural looking it won’t matter so much if you stuff up when putting it on. Another plus is it also goes with a lot of different colour lipsticks so it’s great to have that felxibilty  I could see it going with many light pink and nude colours. My only fault with this is it doesn’t last as long as other MAC lip liners I own (though it still lasts a pretty long time) but it isn’t a prolong wear one so this is to be expected.

MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick

This lipstick is my favourite lipstick of all because the colours just seems to go with every makeup look I do. It is the most perfect nude and lasts ages on the lips (4-5 hours) I love how it is browny beige with a hint of rose. It makes your lips look so healthy and full! It has the most perfect finish and consistency, even though it is matte it looks glides on so nicely and feels quite creamy. Velevt Teddy is subtle with a hint of sexy and you will find yourself reaching for it all the time. I’d definitely recommend this as a colour to look out for if you really, really want a nice nude. You will not regret it.

MAC Angel Lipstick

This lipstick is part of the forst range and is a beautiful, cool, baby pink. I find this colour so versatile, it goes with so many makeup looks. Though I usually lean towards MAC’s matte range I dont find this colour noticeably frosty, more just slightly pearlescent. It is vanilla scented and is probably one of the most moisturising MAC lipsticks I own. If you’re looking for something really versaitle but don’t want a nude colour then look no further! This is my second favourite lipstick I own apart from Velvet Teddy.

MAC Posy Perfect Lip Liner

This Lip Liner is a beautiful, soft baby pink which I bought to go with my MAC Angel Lipstick. This is part of the pro long wear range and though I love the colour as it is really flattering, I find that it is very prone to breakage and its application is quite uneven and slightly chalky. It lasts a standard amount of time (a few hours) but as it is up there in price I expected it to apply more evenly and not break down as easily. Overall I still like using it, though it is not perfect as its name indicates haha.  It is described as “plum” but I would describe it as baby pink with a hint of mauve.

MAC Nightmoth Lip Liner

This lip liner is very dark and bold so not for the faint hearted out there. It is a dark burgundy wine colour which is perfect for creating ombre lip looks. It can look quite goth when used on the entire lip so I tend to only use it for ombre looks and when experimenting with other colours. It is very vampy, long wearing and can be a bit drying if you use it on your entire lip.

Antipodes Boom Rock Bronze Lipstick

This is a really nice original colour and is like a reddy, brown which is unlike anything I own. It’s quite  90’s and very flattering. It is an understated bold and kind of reminds me of Ayers rock in Australia and wild coastal terrain. It makes lips look full and healthy and is a treat to put on. It is moisturizing with nutrient rich avocado oil in it but still quite matte looking with a hint of shine. It lasts quite long especially with lip liner put underneath. It’s enjoy wearing this on nights out to put an interesting twist on makeup looks. This is 100% organic.

Antipodes Dusky Sound Pink Lipstick

This lipsticks is like a classic, rosy pink that would suit people who like noticeable colours different to their normal lip colour which aren’t out there. This also has avocado oil in it, is 100% organic and is a treat to put on. This colour is neither bright nor light and is a medium, rosy pink. It glides on smoothly and has even application. I don’t really find myself reaching for it that much as I tend to go for nudes and light pinks more but it is a great day time lipstick as it isn’t drying at all and you don’t need to put a lip balm underneath it.

Powder Foundation Reviews.

Hello pretties. 🙂

So today I am going to review all the powder foundations I own which is basically all I use foundation wise. I find that powder foundation tends to be more long wearing, doesn’t come off unevenly and doesn’t enlarge the look pores of pores like liquids do, though everyone’s skin is different. I also have quite oily skin so most liquids tend to create too much shine and make me break out. Though I do love the lovely, glowy finish that some liquid foundations have and the feel of putting them on. Anyway here are some reviews the powder foundations I currently use.

foundations 2

Maybelline Mineral Power Foundation in Classic Ivory.

This foundation is great for everyday use and is a pretty good colour match though maybe just a touch too light for me personally. They don’t have many colours to choose from (literally just two- the other option is Nude 2) but if you’re quite fair the shade Classic Ivory should work. I find that this is a good, inexpensive foundation (around $17 AUD) for those no fuss days when you just want light- medium coverage (depending how much you put on). It lasts quite a long time (around 6- 7 hours). I couldn’t really see myself using it for dramatic, night time makeup or when contouring though.

Antipodes Performance Plus Mineral Foundation in Light Yellow 02.

This foundation has such a smooth, silky finish and gives a subtle glow similar to the kind you get with liquid foundations. This is because of the nutrient rich minerals in it. It is around $40 AUD so is in the mid price range. I got the colour Light Yellow 02 which is actually a bit dark for me and really wish I got Pale Pink 01 instead which is their lightest colour. Though it still looks ok if I blend it right down to my neck and use bronzer with it. There isn’t a great amount of colours in the range- 4, but these would suit many fair- medium skin tones. It has SPF 17 in it which is great to know you’re protected, and it is quite long wearing (about 8-9 hours without needing to touch up). There is no mirror inside it but the actual top of the case with the writing is like a mirror itself, though does get smudged.  It is 100% organic.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Mineral Rich Loose Powder in B53 (Light)

I love this foundation. I have been using this foundation for years as it gives me the right amount of coverage, is very long wearing, has such a beautiful texture/ consistency and is a good colour match. This is in the high end of price range at around $50/60 (AUD) but is worth it due to its ability to control shine, hide pores and blend evenly with your skin tone. It works perfectly for day/ night time makeup and I love using it when I contour. It doesn’t come off unevenly and leave you with patches when you blow your nose or rub your face like some liquid foundation does and  once again is very long wearing (hence the name double wear). There are 14 colours in the range which suit very fair- dark skinned people. It has a separate compartment for the sponge and mirror so you don’t have to worry about the loose powder getting all on the mirror. This is a great full coverage, matte foundation It has SPF 12 in it so provides protection against the sun. This is the loose powder version which they no longer sell but they do sell a pressed powder version currently.

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Powder Foundation + Concealer (2 in 1) in 2 Alabaster.

This weightless foundation won’t clog pores and gives you a natural, matte, full coverage finish which lasts all day. The compact case is perfect to carry in your bag and is a pressed powder so it wont go everywhere. The sponge it comes with also provides really good application though I tend to stay away from sponges and use buffing brushes. There are 12 colours to choose from which suite very fair- dark skinned people. What I love about it is that it provides full coverage while still looking very natural and is just as good for both night and day time makeup. It is the most long wearing powder foundaton in the Clinique range. It is good for those with sensitive skin/ allergies as it is fragrance free. I like how there is a button to open and close it snap shut which makes it very easy to pop open. It says it is a 2 in 1 concealer and it does work well with concealing though if you have very noticeable scars or pimples I’d suggest using a concealer as well. I also still use concealer when I contour to create highlights in different areas. This is in the high end of the price range at $55 AUD but you won’t regret buying it as it is extremely good and ticks all the boxes.

Australis, Napoleon Perdis and IT Cosmetics Contour Kit Reviews.

So today I am going to review three contour kits- The Australis AC ON TOUR contour kit, IT Cosmetics My Sculpted Face contour kit and Napoleon Perdics Ultimate Contour Palette.

Australis AC ON TOUR contour kit.

This contour kit is $16.95 from Priceline and is dubbed by some as a cheaper dupe to the Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit. Unfortunately for me I found it did not meet these expectations. I found some of the browns to be quite muddy and unflattering. As well as this the highlighters were not very pigmented and did not stay on for long. The furthest brown to the right, below the darkest pink highlighter is my favourite bronzer as it does not look quite as muddy as the rest. You definitely have to be careful when putting the product on the brush and to only use a very small amount as too much can end up looking far too dark.

IT Cosmetics My Sculpted Face contour kit.

This contour kit was around $55 from Sephora and I definitely do think it is good. The lady in store suggested it to me as a good palette for fair people so I thought it would be a suitable choice. The 2nd darkest bronzer is definitely my favourite as it is not too dark or light. I have used the darkest one but would suggest using it very sparsely as it is quite dark and a little product goes a long way. I think the darkest one is more suited to olive skin. The two lightest browns are very light and do not show up much on my skin I only really use them when I’ve accidentally put too much highlighter on and need to tone it down or help face it out. The ‘pearlescent’ highlighter to the right is my favourite as it gives a really flattering glow but the other one I don’t really find much use for and is more or less a translucent powder as it does not show up much on my skin. The colours I do like stay on the whole light and do have good pigmentation. Overall I like this contour kit but I am not in LOVE with it as I only use one of the browns and one highlighter really regularly. Still, I am happy I have it as part of my collection.

Napoleon Perdis Ultimate Contour Palette

While this contour kit is small it definitely is brilliant! This is my favourite contour palette and the highlighter is the best highlighter I have ever used by far. My friends also own it and say the same thing. It really gives you that perfect, subtle glow you want from a highlighter. It is also very build able to give a more glam, noticeable look as well. The bronzer is great and is good for both night and day makeup. The blush is lovely and is kind of this pink- peach, warm colour that it very flattering to many skin tones. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has fair- medium skin and though it is quite pricey at $65 it is definitely worth it. There is only three colours but I find that that is all you need and the size is GREAT for travelling and fitting in a small bag. My only issue is that I wish there was a bit more product in it. As you can see from the photos I have almost gone through it!

Urban Decay Naked Palette 1 Review

Hi Guys!

So today I am going to do a review of the Urban Decay Naked Palette 1. This palette has been around for ages and has been used by many celebrities and makeup artists. I had been putting off getting it due to the price and the fact I already had a similar palette but decided it was time to give in.

So firstly the packaging is great. The box is dark brown with with gold writing and displays all the colours in this sort of crushed up way on the front. The actual palette itself comes in a velvet case which exudes luxury and is just the right size- not too big not too small. Inside the case is a mirror and a double sided makeup brush. Though eye shadow is around the same size as most eye shadow palettes and will last you a fairly long time. The eye shadow brush is great and feels very high quality.

The colours from left are: Virgin, Sin, Naked, Sidecar, Buck, Half baked, Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle, Creep and Gunmetal (excuse the silly tablecloth in the photo).

Buck and Naked are suitable colours to use just above the crease. They have the ability to really pull together the whole look as they help make the colours used on the crease and brow bone look as if the are fading out instead of just appearing as block colours (which is not ideal haha).

Creep, Hustle and Darkhorse  look great on the crease and outer lid as they are the darkest colours and this helps create a greater shadow and make the eyes look larger by doing so. Darkhorse is ideal for bronze smokey eyes and hustle is perfect for a sort of mauve twist on this.

Half baked, Smog and Toasted are perfect colours to use on the middle lid. Smog is particularly glamorous and toasted is is very feminine and beautiful and perfect for a rose gold smokey eye.

Virgin is the best colour to use just below the brow bone as it is the lightest and creates a highlight and Sin is gorgeous on the inner lid as a way to blend the mid colour and once again to create a rose- gold eye shadow look.

This palette has a lot of great colours which can be used for really toned down, neutral looks but also sexy, smouldering looks. It is suitable for both night time and day time. 🙂

Instead of having a selection of dark browns which you would expect from this kind of palette it has a dark mauve, greeny-gold and a dark blue. This is great if you already own a kind of neutral, goldy- brown eye shadow palette like me. The blues in this palette are perfect as they are glam but not too over the top.

All the colours compliment one another beautifully and blend quite easily. Though I did find myself having to re-dip the brush in the pan quite a few times to get the vibrance I wanted. Personally I prefer the Too Faced Chocolate Bar which is a little cheaper and has similar colours. This is because I found the colours to be slightly more pigmented. Regardless I am still really happy with.

Here is a look I did using this image from Google. I found this really helpful when first using the palette as I find new eye shadow palettes a bit like driving a new car- it takes a while to get a feel for it and figure out which colours look best together.

It’s not perfect but this was my first go so time using the palette so go easy on me. 😛

I should also mention that their is 4 free eye primer potion samples you get with the palette as everyone loves a good freebie. I’ve only used the nude matte one called Eden so far but I love it as it goes on so smoothly and definitely helps eye shadow looks last longer.

Verdict: This palette is great for beginners as it has a lot of light colours which you can use first and then work your way up to the darker colours. It has great colours for both night time and day time and you will be satisfied by the looks you can create. The Urban Decay Naked Palette its pricey at $81 AU dollars from Mecca Maxima and while I love it I do feel that there are other palettes out there which are slightly better (only slightly!) and cheaper.

How To Do An Ombre Lip.

The ombre Lip is a great way to add a unique touch to your usual makeup routine and it can be done with so many different colors to create a variety of looks like vampy, bright or bold. For me the Mac Nightmoth lip liner is a must when creating ombre lips and can be mixed with so many coloured lip sticks to create the perfect ombre look. Although a similar deep burgundy shade could also be used!

Here is my attempt at ombre with the Mac Nightmoth lip liner, Mac Frost Rihanna Viva Glam 1 lipstick and Estee Lauder Wet Cranberry Pure Colour Gloss.

ombre red lips

ombre red lips1

The trick with ombre is to use a different colour on the lip line and than in the centre. I would suggest taking the colour on the lip line from the outside corners 1cm towards the centre like so on each edge (to create two side ways triangles) to allow the lip liner to become more prominent and create more of an ombre effect. Here is what my lips look like before I added the lipstick and lip gloss.

photo 1

When adding the lip stick I mainly focused on applying the lip stick on the centre of the lips and blending it slightly where they overlapped. Using a lip brush definitely helped as it stopped the lipstick and lip liner from becoming messy as they are such dark and noticeable colours!

Here’s what I used:

photo 2

Mac Rihanna Viva Glam 1, Mac Nightmoth lip liner, Estee Lauder Wet Cranberry Pure Colour gloss.

The ombre lip is my favourite lip look to do right now and it doesn’t have to just stop with red lipstick, you can use pink, nude, blue, green, anything! Here is a look I did the the Mac Nightmoth lip liner once again and Mac Pink Plaid lipstick. It created a purplish sort of effect.

ombre purple lips

A deep burgundy lip liner is very versatile as its dark enough to create the ombre effect but not too overpowering that it smudges every where.

My 21st Birthday Presents!

Hi guys,

So it was my 21st birthday the other week and I got some beauty products which I thought I would show you and review. They’re a mixture of moisturisers, lipsticks, lip glosses and perfumes.

Michael Kors Wild Jasmine gift set.

Perfume- This perfume has a very clean, fresh and pretty scent which has jasmine obviously and a hint of honey suckle. It reminds me of spring, it is quite subtle and there is not too much going on. Though they call it a glam scent I find it to be more classy and feminine. The staying power is good and tends to linger all day and the bottle is magnificent. I love how it adds a touch of class to my dressing room table.

Rating: 8.5/10

Moisturiser- The moisturiser is super nourishing though it does take a while to absorb into the skin which can be a little annoying if you are on the go and hate stickiness. What is good about it though is how long- lasting the scent is, you pretty much wouldn’t need a perfume with it. The smell is still very much present even after 3 hours. The scent is very much like the perfume but is a little creamier.

 Rating: 8.5/10

Estee Lauder High Shine Gloss Collection.

Before I owned these I used to think that lip glosses were too sticky to wear comfortably. These glosses however settle perfectly on the lips, making them feel much better if they are dry or chapped.  While they absorb quickly the colour remains on the lips for up to 3 hours after application (even through eating or drinking). The red gloss which is called Wet Cranberry Shine is especially beautiful and pigmented and you do not even need a lipstick when wearing it. The 3 lightest shades are all very sheer and give a hint of colour to the lips. Raspberry Pop Sparkle is a bit more pigmented and is a fun, feminine colour while the purple one known as Plum Divine Shimmer is very pretty and unique. It would look particularly lovely with a plum lip liner to create a sort of ombre lip. Though they are all quite sheer apart except for Wet Cranberry they’re a great alternative for when you don’t want anything too opaque with but still want a hint of colour. I would recommend this to anyone who likes the natural look and isn’t ready to wear lipsticks yet. These would also be good layered on top of lipsticks to slightly alter the colour and give them some shine. While I don’t think it is necessary to buy all the colours it would definitely be handy to own one for the days when your lips need the moisture but you still want an added pop of colour.

Mac Rihanna Viva Glam Frosted lipstick gift pack.

Ahh yes. When I opened these up and saw the Mac logo I jumped for joy inside. I absolutely love the packaging and the velvet red casing of the lipsticks are so classy, they’re almost better than chanel. The sparkly makeup bag is an added bonus and great for storing your lipsticks or for travelling.

Viva Glam 1- This lipstick is beautiful and you can’t go wrong with this. It’s great for red lipstick first timers as it isn’t too bright or off putting  and is very classy. I could see it suiting most skin tones and is very similar to the deep red lip I always see Rihanna wearing on the red carpet. It makes my lips look slightly plumper than other red lipsticks I own possibly due to it’s frosted finish. It also last very long through eating and drinking and isn’t drying.

mac rihanna viva glam 1

Rating: 8.5/10

Rihanna Viva Glam 2- This is truly unique and I have never encountered a colour like it. It is like a mix of a frosted brown/ grey/ taupe and I couldn’t even name the colour when I first opened it. I have come to the conclusion that I like it and it looks much better on my lips than on the stick. While it’s not something you may wear all the time it’s perfect for night time and it definitely goes along with the whole 9o’s lip trend and is quite vampy. A suggested lip liner to go with it would be Night Moth by Mac as I researched an they’re a beautiful combination. Definitely an out there lipstick. I like it on light skin but think it would look particularly beautiful on dark skin. The only reason I’m not giving it a higher rating is because I don’t usually go for bold colours.

Fcuk Friction perfume.

I had been wanting a vanilla scented perfume for a while now so was very happy I received this.  This is a perfect day perfume as its very light, sweet and fresh. It smells like vanilla, coconut and pineapple. It reminds me of a Pina Colada and summer. I also read the other day that surveyed men love the scent of vanilla on women so hey you could even wear it on a date. It is quite cheap (around 20 Australian dollars) and lasts relatively long for the price (a few hours).

Rating: 7.5/10

Springfields Sleepy Lavender Massage and Body Oil.

Springfields is an Australian skin care and aromatherapy brand which I had never heard before now. This massage oil is not too oily and works very well as a moisturiser. I find that it works well on legs after shaving as it’s quite soothing and calms down irritated skin. It isn’t sticky in the slightest and it has a lovely lavender and sweet almond scent which actually did make me sleepy. The springfields range is a little pricey but a small bit goes a long way.

How To Contour and Highlight.

I thought I would do a contouring and highlighting post as I recently became a qualified makeup artist so feel confident enough to show you. There are so many ways to contour and highlight. It is something which is different for everyone and it is all about experimenting and finding out what’s right for you. This is just how I do it.

This is the look I created:

Products and tools

There are many products for contouring. You can use powders, cream and liquids. Many people like to use liquid concealers or creams to contour if they use a liquid foundation and powders if they use a powder foundation. For me I usually use a liquid concealer to highlight, a powder foundation and a powdered bronzer, blush and illuminator, however for this look today I wanted to use a liquid foundation because I got a free tester and couldn’t wait to put it on. Some good powder products are the Australis AC On Tour Contour Kit, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit and the Napoleon Perdis Ultimate Contour Palette. Anastasia Beverly hills also has a cream contour kit and Mac Prolongwear Concealers are great liquids which can be used for contouring and highlighting.

You can buy brushes specifically for contouring however I find normal bronzing brushes work just fine. A buffing brush or beauty blender is essential when using liquid products as you want the colours to blend together nicely. A fan brush comes in handy when applying powdered illuminators as well.

How to:

1. Apply primer and foundation all over you face.

2. Begin the highlighting process by using a concealer a sahde or two lighter than your foundation. I use the Mac Pro long wear concealer in nc15. Apply this to the middle of the forehead, along the bridge of the nose, onto the middle of the chin, beneath the eyes all the way down to just under the nose and above the cheekbones. You can use a photo such as this one to guide you and it is a must for the first few times you try to contour and highlight.

3. Suck your cheeks in and apply a dark contour colour 3 or 4 shades darker than your foundation using a just beneath the cheek bones. I create an imaginary line in my head and stop where the outer part of the iris is when I look straight ahead. You can also use this colour at the edge of the forehead around the hairline and blend.

3. You can contour the nose and eyes by taking a small brush (an eye shadow brush will do) and applying the contour along the side of the nose and up to the eyes just above the crease and blend. I tend to just put it on the sides of the nose as I find it doesn’t suit me beneath the eyes but you can experiment and see if it looks good. I sometimes use a lighter colour around my nose than I do on my cheekbones (about 2 shades darker than my foundation) but for this look I used the same as I did on my cheekbones but only a very small amount. Don’t be worried if it is a bit too dark at first as you can use your buffing brush to blend it and layer foundation on top to make it look more natural.

4. Now for the cheeks. You can either brush your blush onto the whole apples of your cheeks or stop it where you took the dark contour colour. I prefer to stop it where I take the contour colour but you can also take it a bit further dependant on the look you want to create.

5. Illuminator time! This is my favourite part as it ties the whole look together and really makes the skin glow. Take the fan brush and lightly dust the highlighter on the top of the cheekbones, across the bridge of the nose, beneath the brows, on the middle of the forehead and on the chin. You can also dab a bit on the cupids bow using a small brush.

6. This final step is really optional and simply increases the definition in the cheekbones. You can add three dabs of concealer beneath the bottom of the contour colour and blend it in, adding foundation if needed.  This just gives the cheekbones that added definition.

Thanks for reading. 🙂

 What I used:

fan brush, brozning brush, blush brush, buffing brush, eye shadow brush, Mac Pro Longwear Concealer in nc15, Mac Pro Longwear Foundation in nc20, Napoleon Perdis Ultimate Contour Palette, Napoleone Perdis Auoto Pilot Primer.

P.s I just want to say that I didn’t really like the Mac Pro Longwear foundation which I used for this as it made my pores look bigger and came off unevenly after a while, the Pro Longwear concealer is fantastic though.
